Weapons, Vaccinations, Things to Bring

Weapons of Choice The 375 is a good all around caliber that will handle any game you will come across on your safari. It will be especially appreciated when hunting the very dangerous buffalo. A 338 is ideal for most antelope and smaller game. You are permitted to import 40 rounds for each rifle you bring. A good scope is as important as the rifle you bring. 3-9 or 4-10 power is a good choice although whatever you are comfortable with is the best choice.

Things to Bring
Good binoculars
Hiking shoes or boots (worn in)
Light sweater or jacket for early morning hunts and evening activities.
Hat (something that will keep the sun off your face and neck)
Sunglasses
Sunscreen

Medical Precautions A yellow fever vaccination is required to enter Burkina Faso. Other vaccinations are recommended including Hepatitis A, Polio, Typhoid, Tetanus, and Meningitis. Also, it is a good idea to take an anti-malarial even though it is not malaria season. There are a number of anti-malarial treatments out there. Malarone is a very good one. Consult your physician to see what vaccinations and malaria treatment they recommend. Many of the vaccinations are expensive and unnecessary.

Gun Transportation Transporting a gun to Burkina for hunting is not a difficult process. It is necessary to fill out a firearm temporary importation application form which you will receive upon booking. This form includes information about your gun(s) (up to two) such as make, model, caliber, serial number, etc. You will then mail this form to Burkina for further processing. You are also required to bring four passport identity photos for use in purchasing the hunting licenses.
